There is no doubt that the proceedings against the Hon. Dr. Atkinson were somewhat irregular, because, on the two occasions when that Hon. gentleman recommended my dismissal, I was not informed of the intention to do so, or of the fact that the recommendations had been done.
I respectfully beg to draw your Lordship's attention to the fact, which is pre-eminent and which no amount of equivocation can alter, that had it not been for my strong reliance on the worth of Government employment, and my unshaken faith in the probity of everyone connected with the Government, in 1905, I would not have been a refugee in the East in 1907.
